World War 2 is known as the worst war that was ever fought in, and with good reason. Thanks to that war 60 million people died and most of them were CIVILIANS. The whole thing started back in September 1st when Nazi Germany attacked Poland, after that the Nazis attacked many other countries including France and the Soviet Union. By invading the Soviet Union in the summer of 1941 they had broken a treaty that stated that they would not attack each other (Stokesbury, World War II).
After that the world split up into two groups the Axis and the Allies. On the Axis side you had the Germans, Italians, Japan, and some other smaller European countries. The men running the Axis powers were the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, Japanese emperor Hirohito and the worst of them all was Adolf Hitler who was the leader of the Nazis. On the Allies side there were the British, the Russians, the Americans and many more countries who fought, to name some of the leaders are Russian dictator Joseph Stalin, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the U.S president Franklin Roosevelt. The war started in 1939 and lasted till 1945, in the end Italy surrendered on September 8th 1943, Hitler committed suicide on April 30th 1945 and the Japanese surrendered on September 2nd of 1945. With all of the Axis powers defeated the war was over and the Allies had won (Butterfield).
